As a Professional Fiduciary, Hilary Spahn brings a unique blend of legal expertise and personal insight to every matter she handles. Prior to becoming a Professional Fiduciary, Hilary worked as a Trust and Estates Paralegal for over a decade. During this time, she acquired firsthand experience and understanding of the complexities of estate planning and administration, as well as an understanding of the professional obligations required of a fiduciary.
Hilary made the choice to become a Professional Fiduciary for several reasons. She realized she would bring a unique level of expertise to her profession. She also genuinely enjoys the personal aspect of working directly with individuals and families. Hilary places significant emphasis on demonstrating exemplary professional conduct, embodying rectitude and the highest ethical standards. Lastly, Hilary possesses a refined understanding of how attention to detail and succinct communication shape meaningful outcomes.
During Hilary’s time spent in the Trust and Estates law firm setting, she worked closely with individuals and families to implement foundational estate plans centered around Revocable Living Trusts, Wills, and Powers of Attorney. Beyond that, Hilary gained significant experience and expertise working on sophisticated and complex trust matters that included implementing transfer tax mitigation strategies for high-net worth individuals and families; modernizing older irrevocable trusts through trust decantings; utilizing powers of appointment to redirect trust assets; establishing and maintaining asset protection structures; and formation and corporate governance of private trust companies. Hilary has worked with many Trustees and Personal Representatives through simple and complex trust and estate administrations.
Beyond Hilary’s professional experience, she also draws from personal experience with trust and estate administration, which has provided her with a truly well-rounded perspective. This allows her to approach each matter with both technical skill and genuine empathy, ensuring that every trust and estate she manages is handled with precision, care, and respect.
Hilary is a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary (License #1537) and a National Guardian by the National Guardian Association. She holds a Paralegal Certificate, with a focus on Business Litigation, from the University of San Diego. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from San Diego State University.
